Trinity River Press publishes Songless: The Desert, the first novel in Heidi A. Hill’s mythic western saga
Northern California
Trinity River Press has published Songless: The Desert, the debut novel of Heidi A. Hill and the opening volume of the Songless Saga. The book is available in ebook, paperback, and hardcover.
Set in a realm not unlike the Old West, Songless: The Desert follows Hawthorne Arden, a Princess of the Valley of the Oaks whose song voice is taken by the Vanishers. Cut off from the hymn that has protected her people, she bargains with the women on the mountain to undo the vanishing — and finds, instead of the punishment she expected, a King she was raised to fear, a soldier who will not let her go, and a desert where no thirst is ever quenched.
Hill, a Northern California writer and former magazine editor, began the saga during quarantine. Songless: The Desert is a frontier fantasy of exile and forgiveness, written for readers who prefer their heroines guilty and their mercy unearned. It can be read as a standalone.
The novel is 403 pages. Paperback ISBN 979-8988741619. The ebook appeared in July 2023; print followed in the autumn.
A prequel novella, The House that Jack Built, and Book Two, Songless: The Fort, continue the saga.
